Oregano is a herb which can be found growing wild in the easterly regions of the state. Another theory suggests that it derives from the French Canadian word "ouragan" which means "storm" or "hurricane", Canadian fur traders once referred to the Columbia River as "the river of storms" |

| Fun Fact 10 | A brief history of Oregon - The Spanish were the first to explore the region in 1543. From 1818 until 1846 residence was held jointly by Great Britain and the United States under treaty. During 1842-1843 new American settlers were bought to the region via the Oregon Trail. In 1846 borders were set out by order of the Oregon Treaty and the Oregon Territory was officially created in 1848. Oregon became the 33rd State to be admitted to the Union on February 14, 1859 |
