Fun Fact 1

The name Wisconsin originated from a Chippewa Indian word which means "grassy place"

Fun Fact 2

The Wisconsin state flag is a field of blue with the state coat of arms centrally located. The state coat of arms depicts a sailor and a miner (they represent labor on land and water), the figures stand either side of a yellow shield. The shield displays the following images; a plow, a pick and shovel, an arm and hammer, an anchor, the images represent agricultural, mining, manufacturing and shipping industries, they surround a central image of the national coat of arms, including the national motto "E Pluribus Unum" which translates as "One Out Of Many". At the foot of the shield lies a cornucopia (which represents prosperity & abundance) and 13 lead ingots (which represent the 13 original colonies and mineral prosperity). Above the shield is a white banner displaying the state motto "Forward" and an image of the state animal, a badger. The state name Wisconsin and the date 1848, the year that the state joined the U.S. constitution surrounds the state coat of arms

The Capital city of Wisconsin is Madison. Madison is the second largest city (Milwaukee is the largest). The city of Madison is located in Dane County

The Wisconsin State Motto is "Forward" the state motto was officially adopted in 1851 and was chosen to represent the state in its campaign to be recognised as a leader

A brief history of Wisconsin - First settled by the French in 1634, the British took control of the region in 1763 after the French - Indian War. The U.S. gained procession after the Revolutionary War in 1783; the British had ceded all power by 1812. Wisconsin became the 30th State to be admitted to the Union on May 29, 1848

Capital City Madison is one of only two American Cities that are built on an isthmus; an isthmus is a thin strip of land that has water on either side and connects two larger land regions. The other U.S. city built on an isthmus is Seattle in Washington State

The US Department of Commerce Census Bureau states that the Population of Wisconsin in 2012 was an estimated 5,726,398. This compares to a population of 2,069,042 filed on census from the year 1900
