Ronald Reagan was born in Tampico, Illinois on June 6th, 1911

Ronald Reagan's father was a salesman of Irish descent and Ronald and his older brother were raised in a second floor apartment in Tampico, Illinois. When he was young his father nicknamed him "Dutch" because of the way he looked, this name remained with him until he was a young man

Fun Fact 3He studied economics and sociology at Eureka College and worked as a life guard, he kept count of the lives he saved and reached the count of 77 people

Starting out in radio and small role acting, Ronald Reagan won a seven-year contract with Warner Brothers in 1937, and became a famous movie and television actor; he is credited with 53 different acting roles in his television/movie career

In 1940 Ronald Reagan married his first wife, Jane Wyman; they were married for 8 years before they divorced. He married his second wife, actress Nancy Davis on March 4, 1952, and together they had four children

Ronald Reagan became the 40th President of America in 1981, when he was 69 years of age, he served for 8 years until 1989

Throughout his life Ronald Reagan had a few nicknames connected to him, as a child he was known as “Dutch,” in later life he was nicknamed “The Gipper” for his acting role of footballer George Gipp, and as president for his feel-good speech technique he was nick-named “The Great Communicator”

Ronald Reagan was also known to some as the "Jelly Bean Man" because of his love of them! 3.5 tons of Jelly Bellie beans were dispatched to the White House for his 1981 presidential celebrations. A blue one, blueberry flavour, was developed especially for the occasion so that red, white and blue were each represented

On June 5, 2004 Ronald Reagan died, in Los Angeles, California, he was 93 years of age. He was laid in State in Washington D.C. and over 104,000 people walked past his coffin to pay their final respects. His funeral on June 11, 2004 was attended by a politicians, dignitaries and movie actors from around the world
