Fun Fact 1

Warren Gamaliel Harding was born in Blooming Grove, Ohio on November 2, 1865. He was the eldest of 8 children

Fun Fact 2

Warren Gamaliel Harding was named after his great-uncle the Reverend Warren Gamaliel Bancroft. His mother Phoebe had wanted to name him Winfield but approved the final choice of her husband, Dr. George Tryon Harding, however to her Warren was always known as “Winnie”

He studied at Ohio Central College in Iberia and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree when he was 17 years of age. Whilst he was there he enjoyed public speaking and was a talented cornet player, performing in a variety of bands

Warren Harding married Florence Kling DeWolfe on July 8, 1891. They had no children together but Florence had a son from a previous marriage, his name was Marshall Eugene DeWolfe

Warren Harding became the 29th President of America in 1921. He was 55 years of age and served for 2 years until his death in 1923

The presidency of Warren Harding has been ranked by historians as one of the worst, he was considered unprofessional and many of his advisors were dishonest, some were charged with defrauding government

The most famous cause of scandal during the presidency of Warren Harding was 'Teapot Dome Bribery Scandal'. Teapot Dome is a rock formation in Wyoming that is shaped similar to a teapot and situated above, what was once, a large US Navy oil reserve. Friend of Warren Harding, Albert Fall, took bribes and secretly leased it to a private oil company in 1921. Albert Fall received in the region of $400,000 in cash and bribes and was later convicted and sent to jail. Warren Harding died before the scandal was made public

During his presidency Warren Harding officially opposed entry into the League of Nations. The League of Nations could be described as the first international organization whose main aim was to sustain world peace

Warren Harding formally ended World War I in 1921. In 1922 an agreement to limit naval weapons was signed by the US, France, Great Britain, Japan and Italy

Warren Harding had a pet dog named 'Laddie Boy', he was an Airedale and each day collected and delivered the president's newspaper, he even had his own chair for cabinet meetings!

Warren Harding was a gambler and hosted weekly poker games at the White House, once he gambled the White House china, he lost the game, and the china!

Warren Harding was a keen golfer, and played twice a week. He was the first president to have a golf course named after him. Harding Park opened in 1925 and is located in San Francisco, California

Warren Harding died during his presidency when he was 57 years of age, just before the Teapot Dome scandal became public knowledge. He died on August 2, 1923 in San Francisco, California
