Carmelo Anthony was born on May 29th, 1984 in Brooklyn, New York in the United States of America.

Carmelo Anthony's middle name is Kyam. He was named after his Puerto Rican father who sadly passed away when Carmelo was 2 years of age.

Carmelo Anthony was raised in the Red Hook project as a small child. The Red Hook project is a neighborhood based in Brooklyn, New York. He moved to Baltimore at the age of eight with his family.

Carmelo Anthony focused on sports throughout his childhood. The area where he was raised in Baltimore was home to high criminal activity and drugs. Sport gave Carmelo Anthony something really positive to concentrate on and apply his efforts.

Carmelo Anthony attended Towson Catholic High School in Baltimore. He played basketball at the school and soon earned himself the title of Baltimore's Sun's metro player of the year in 2001. His sporting abilities were a credit to the school, however, he wasn't always a star pupil as he often played truant which led him to suspension from school a number of times.

Carmelo Anthony transferred to Oak Hill Academy in Virginia where he won the tournament MVP in The Les Schwab Invitational against Mater Dei High School. They also won other important tournaments including the Nike Academy National Invitational.
