Jimi Hendrix was born on November 27th, 1942 in Seattle, Washington in the United States of America. His birth name was Johnny Allen Hendrix.

Jimi Hendrix was born into a dysfunctional environment. His parents were very poor and they divorced when Jimi was nine years old.

Jimi Hendrix learned to play the guitar himself. He was inspired by Elvis Presley and he taught himself to play tunes by Elvis. The guitar was a ukulele which was given to him by a lady who had planned on throwing it away.

Jimi Hendrix actually got to see his idol, the 'King of Pop', otherwise known as Elvis Presley, live in concert in 1957.

Jimi Hendrix was a great guitar player, he could play left-handed and right-handed versions of the instrument.

Jimi Hendrix's formed the King Kasuals with his friend Billy Cox who he met in 1961. The R&B duo actually met in the army where they served in the 101st Airborne Paratroopers Division.

This famous American singer, songwriter and musician formed a band with Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell in 1966 at London's town of Westminster. Together, the English-American band formed the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience ran until Noel Redding left in 1969. During this time, the band released three successful albums called Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience reformed in 1970. Billy Cox joined the band and played the bass. The band continued until September of the same year when Jimi sadly passed away.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.

Jimi Hendrix died at a young age, he was just 27 years old when he passed away. It's thought that he died from a drug overdose. During his life, he had often fallen victim to alcohol and drugs.

Jimi Hendrix greatly influenced the history of music with his talents. The type of music he played and sang was mainly heavy rock. He played lots of different types of guitar but one of his favorites was the Fender Stratocaster which is a model of electric guitar.

Jimi Hendrix's best-selling album was released in 1968. It was called 'Are You Experienced'. Some of the songs on the album included Foxy Lady, Manic Depression, Red House, Can You See Me, and Love or Confusion.

Jimi Hendrix achieved a UK number 1 hit single in 1970 with his song 'Voodoo Chile'. He was very successful in United Kingdom where he spent much of his musical career.
