Fun Fact 1

The Pyramids of Giza are located in the desert just outside of the capital city of Cairo in Egypt.

Fun Fact 2

The Pyramids of Giza comprise of three main pyramids, the Great Sphinx, smaller pyramids and tombs, temples and monuments.

Amongst the main Pyramids of Giza lies the Great Pyramid which is one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World. It is the oldest Ancient Wonder of the World and only one still remaining.

The Great Pyramid is the last of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World. It is also known by other names which include the Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Cheops.

The three main structures at the Pyramids of Giza are so big that you could fit a number of buildings inside them!

The two smaller pyramids of Giza which lie next to the Great Pyramid are called Menkaure and Khafre.

Way back in history, more than 4500 years ago, great kings were mummified and buried in the tombs.

The Great Pyramid stands at approximately 137 meters high. It has lost some of its structure over the years so originally it would have been higher, at around 146 meters.

The Great Sphinx of Giza is part of the archaeological site. It dates to approximately 2500BC. The Great Sphinx is a huge limestone statue of a lion's body with a human head; possibly a representation of the Pharaoh Khafra. This is one of the largest and oldest statues in the world.
