Aretha Franklin was born on March 25th, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee in the United States of America. Her middle name is Louise.

Aretha Franklin has five siblings of which she was the fourth. Her brothers and sisters are called Carolyn, Erma, Cecil, Carl Ellan and Vaughn.

Aretha Franklin, along with her siblings, was raised by her father who was known as the 'Million Dollar Voice'. Her father was called Reverend C.L. Franklin and he was the pastor of the New Bethel Church in Detroit.

As a child, her father wanted to teach her to play the piano, however, she declined his offer and instead began learning piano on her own by listening to Eddie Heywood records!
